CHEUVRONT FLOOR AMENDMENT

SENATE AMENDMENTS TO S.C.R. 1005

1   Page 1, line 29, strike the period insert "; and"

2      Between lines 29 and 30, insert:

3                 "Whereas, John Fitzgerald Kennedy fought for his country in World War

4           11 in the south Pacific as commander of the motor torpedo boat PT-109; and

5                 Whereas, President Kennedy was, at the age of 43, the youngest person

6           to be elected president and was the first president born in the twentieth

7           century; and

8                 Whereas, one of President Kennedy's first acts in office was to create

9           the United States Peace Corps, through which American citizens volunteer to

10          help underdeveloped nations in areas such as education and health care; and

11                Whereas, President Kennedy is the only president to ever win a Pulitzer

12          Prize for his biography "Profiles in Courage"; and

13                Whereas, President Kennedy handled the Cuban Missile Crisis in an

14          effective and timely manner and

15                Whereas, President Kennedy was the first president to urge that

16          Americans put the first man on the moon and lead the way in space travel; and

17                Whereas, President Kennedy inspired our nation with quotes such as "ask

18          not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"

19          and strengthened our image in the eyes of foreign nations with quotes such as

20          "whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here

21          the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you"; and

22                Whereas, President Kennedy's time in office was cut short due to his

23          assassination on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas."


Senate Amendments to S.C.R. 1005

1   Page 1, between lines 36 and 37, insert:

2                 "2. That the Members of the Legislature recognize May 29th each year

3           as John Fitzgerald Kennedy Day in Arizona and encourage the citizens of this

4           state to take this opportunity to remember the many contributions of

5           President Kennedy to the well-being of our nation."

6      Renumber to conform

7      Line 38, after "Reagan" insert "and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg"

8   Amend title to conform
